I have been an early childhood educator for the past 12 years having taught preschool, kindergarten and first grade. I am currently a contract based technology integration specialist living in Portland, Oregon. I have a passion for educational technology and I look forward to seeing where this Master's will take me!
I am taking the next year off from the classroom to be at home with our newly adopted son and transition our family from Hawaii to the Portland area. We have two sons, brothers, that we adopted out of the foster care system. They are 6 and 8 years old. I am originally from New Mexico and also have teaching experiences in Denver, New York City, and Honolulu, Hawaii.
I love to present my love of technology integration. I have presented my work with students at national conferences such as EdTechTeacher's iPad Summits, ISTE, and the South by Southwest Educational Conference. I was also chosen to be part of the Apple Distinguished Educator's Class of 2015 and am 2016 Apple Teacher.
My current EDTECH passions are teaching coding with elementary age students. I also love tech-infused writer's workshops that provide students authentic audiences through blogging and Twitter. I am very interested and engaged in learning about design thinking and the maker education movement. I have also transitioned to providing hands-on professional development opportunities for teachers with technology devices, apps, and tools. The below video was created in my EdTech 533 Class as our final mini-documentary project. It is the story of the adoption of our oldest son Dillon.
